Fire type: Manage Wilderness Fire utilizing suppression efforts to protect private property and USFS infrastructure. This fire is not a managed wilderness fire and is receiving full fire suppression efforts to protect nearby properties and resources.

 

Update: Lostine Pole Fire, September 1

The Pole Fire in the Lostine Canyon has 10 Grande Ronde rappeller firefighters on the ground with support from helicopters.

The fire is only at an acre, but nearby residents have been alerted for potential evacuation.

The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest North Zone is managing the fire with help from the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Wallowa Unit personnel. The Zone anticipates the fire will be contained/controlled soon.


Update: Double Creek Fire, September 1

Baker City, Ore. – September 1, 2022 – Wallowa-Whitman National Forest – The Double Creek Fire burned very actively during the night and is estimated to be about 1500 acres this morning, and it is expected to burn very actively today also.

The Wallowa County Sheriff has issued a change in the evacuation levels for the Double Creek Fire area. Beginning September 1, 2022 at 6 am, the current evacuation levels are:

Level 3, “Go Now” evacuation for the Hat Point Road. The Hat Point Road is also closed due to the fire activity.

Level 2, “get Set” for the Imnaha River Road, from Rippleton Creek to the Imnaha Grange, including Freezeout Road. 

Level 1, “be Ready” for the Imnaha River Road, from the town of Imnaha to Rippleton Creek.

Level 1, “be Ready” for the Imnaha River Road, from the Imnaha Grange to the Pallette Ranch including Imnaha River Woods.

Helicopters, air tankers, dozers, engines, and crews are fighting the fire, and additional resources are ordered.

The Northeast Oregon Interagency Type 3 Incident Management team assumed command of the Double Creek Fire at 6 am on September 1. A Pacific Northwest Type 1 Incident Management Team has been ordered and will receive an in-briefing on Friday at 12 pm.
